not reallym johnny card text states that it gives a base copy of a card
That's exactly how it worked - base copy is a bronze unit. Will think twice next time. :D

    Quote from ZDTreefur >>

The monster's ability works directly against its card mechanics. What's fine about it?

I have a thought or two about that and play some Monster decks. Hard to admit but I realized I was wrong. It's not really a Foglet thing as any type of bread deck will not benefit much from Monster's ability. This makes high value monster decks the only deck archetype, that works just fine with the passive.
However I don't really see how the things could improve... At the beginning passive allowed you to keep a gold units on board, which caused everyone to play GeraltEredin opening. Not sure we want to bring that back.
How about something similar to Nekker Warrior's ability? Add a copy of a random unit to your deck?

I'm not sure whether you guys are aware of this, but using Johnny against NR decks can seriously backfire. I played him right after Oponent's Dun Banner Heavy Cavalry triggered and guess what? :D I was rewarded with a copy of bronze Dun Banner Heavy Cavalry

I thought it was a bug or something but then realized that Johnny provides you with "a base copy of another card of the same color randomly chosen from both players' cards (ALL LOCATIONS)". Apparently the "ALL LOCATIONS" part was the key factor there.

I also have an issue with the Quen mechanic.

Example: Range and Siege Row are weathered.

    1. You use the Quen Shield on your Foglets.

    2. Opponent uses Aard to push your Foglets into the Siege row.

The Text of the Quen Shield cards reads "protect its bearer of one strength-removing effect" and Geralt Aard reads: "Remove 1 strength from all moved units". Nevertheless, your Foglets die. Shouldn't the Quen Shield protect them?

Foglets are destroyed when moved outside of Fog or Fog is removed.

posted a message on Abusing the system for ores and scraps

Forfeit requires an action followed by confirmation. You can't forfeit by mistake (I think), so there should be logs saying whether you have left your game by purpose or due to connection issues.

    Quote from ffabrao >>

It's different. Those things cannot be controlled by the system. Speeding, Running a red light, stabbing someone, how can you even compare?

In gwent, absolutely everything can be controlled by the system, therefore, the system should be responsible to make the rules untouchable.

Please don't take me wrong here. That was a reference to a never-ending debate about knife (should have stated that right away). You can't tell whether the tool itself is good or bad as it depends on actions taken with that tool. Exaggerating was intentional, as the mechanism is similar. "GG" system was created to allow players to show respect and reward the Opponent. Apparently not everyone is willing to use it this way. People tend to cut corners in order to get an advantage. That's my point of view.

posted a message on Abusing the system for ores and scraps

Abusing system is wrong and should be punished. The mechanism itself allows you to do good and bad stuff. It's up to you how you use it. It's like speeding, running a red light or using a knife to stab someone (exaggerating here... I know). You "technically" are allowed to do those things right? Doesn't mean you should.

As for the complexity of the algorithm. How about calculating daily forfeit ratio? If it's to high then no GG give/receive.

I think it was mentioned on one of their streams already - they are looking closely into ways people abuse the reward system. Your points are valid and I hope CDPR will have a look on them.

However... I'm one of those players who hit GG button when the game was actually a good game (despite the result). There's no mockery or bragging there - just a simple way to say "thank you" to my opponent.

As far as I know they are considered "Special Cards" hence can be drawn with Elven Mercenary
    Quote from Greewens >>

Later, against a monsters deck, Caranthir appeared and triggered it, but only one of the two hounds got trapped, the second one was harmless.

Dol Blathanna Trapper triggers when a non-gold unit appears on the row. Caranthir spawns two units - not simultaneously, but one after another. It means that the Trapper worked as intended

posted a message on Will there be a wipe?
    Quote from lordcronos >>

Sometimes I cant just understand people.

Yeah, CDP, wipe everything, punish your F2P beta players (which are the vast mayority, and im ready to spend real money on this game, as I did with HS, but only if I find there are fair terms) by reducing their modest collection to a premium geralt (which by the way its nothing exclusive and actually its a crappy card).

Wipe its not only not necessary, since its healthy to have an all levels player base built on day 1, but heavily counterproduccent in terms of new beta relyabilities (if something like this happens, thanks CDP, dont count with me for another beta testing).

However, a reasonable action could be to re-stablish all kegs, no matter how where they bought (if you bought 40 kegs with real money, hey you will have 40 more kegs, thats already a substantial advantage).

About frustrating new players, this is not a wipe problem, its a matchmaking problem, new players should be paired to new players, but this is a big beta issue, the matchmaking really sucks (they claim its intelligent, I dont see the intelligence anywhere), i keep being paired to guys with millions of legendaries on their decks (i have some scattered legendaries, a decoy and a geralt igni, but nothing really sinergistic).

The only reason I see someone claiming for a wipe is: your bought kegs with money and you dont win. Praising for getting people collections wiped is not fair.

Please don't take my post as an official statement It's just what can be found in random discussions on Reddit or other Gwent related forums. Even though, my card collection is nearly completed, my personal opinion is - wipe is fair and should happen just before game release.
You may refer to links provided below to read something that comes directly from CDPR.
Q: What will happen with the items I purchased during the Beta? Will I get to keep them after the game goes out of Beta?
A: Should any progress resets happen, we will return you the number of Card Kegs you purchased using real-world currency.

I do not think he is too overpowered because it requires a very narrow set of cards to function very well and it is easy to avoid his full effect by playing smart, maybe just a power reduction to 8 should be fine.

posted a message on Borkh Three Jackdaws = autowin round?

There is no universal tactic or a guideline that works every time.

Not sure whether you run Foglet in your deck or not (I assume no). If that's the case Impenetrable Fog opening would be a good choice, as opening with Geralt may lead to Kaedweni Sergeant demote and burn. I would probably try to stall by playing one Ancient Foglet later. Depends on what happen next you can either risk Geralt or Alzur's Thunder whatever appears on board.

Note, that Kaedweni Sergeant is 6 str as well as your Ancient Foglet so you may want to hold on your fog if you aim for scorching both units. What you definitely want to avoid in this situation, is to play multiple units with the same STR or to buff a single dude you have on your side.

With that being told - board state you shared is not that terrible.

Thanks for ideas, but i still cant fight him, im just lvl 5, so i dont have low str swarm cards or other goldens then Geralt. I tried  buff oponents cards, but he just pass turn after and win anyway.

Specially at round 3 i dont have choice to counter him, or pass turn. 3x18 wasnt my fault entirely, oponent help with setting their strenght.

Sacrifice in-betweens tactic seems really costly, oponent can just wait another 3 rounds, while i bleed out in cards number sense.

That's probably the reason you feel those cards are too powerful. You will struggle against any Tier 1 deck or even any Tier 1 card (like Borkh). It doesn't mean he's OP.
    Quote from No_mana_today >>

Returning to your topic, Borkh <> autowin round, definetely. It's a tricky card which can hit owner harder then opponent. I agree that it's difficult to deal against Borkh at your level, as well as any other legendary, but it doesn't mean Borkh is too strong.

I agree. Borkh can back-fire and he requires both skill and resources to be played successfully.

You're asking for trouble, if you decide to have multiple units with the same (high) amount of str (Crones + promote + thunderbolt = 3x18) or a single non-gold buffed unit like: FrightenerGrave HagGiant Toad or Sarah. Frankly it's even easier to doge Borhk than the usual counters like scorch or GIgni as you have 3 rounds to prepare.

Borkh Three Jackdaws is strong but requires some planning to be effective. That makes him easy to doge with gold cards or low str. minions.

posted a message on Milva Appreciation

"last card win buttons" were addressed in the latest patch, which in my opinion was really needed. There are still a couple more cards to be changed, but I believe that CDPR is looking into the root cause already. Those were like "play a card to add 30 str." - I'm not sure whether Milva falls into that category. She has strong denial capabilities (especially when paired with Eithné) and she can grant you a card advantage which is a huge deal. However she requires you to plan ahead, she will not win you the game like the pre-patch Isengrim could.

    Maybe I'm missing something here.

It appears that the currency payout is very low in this game. So little in fact, that I don't feel I can ever unlock even a single epic quality card, never mind legendaries, just by playing the game. The way the reward payout diminishes as you gain levels especially just feels disheartening.

I understand the developer wants to sell boosters but surely you can see that this isn't a winning strategy when you are trying to compete with the likes of hearthstone or even elder scrolls legends, which are much more generous.

Now I understand this is early days of beta, but that is kind of my point. I would LIKE to test the game and see how well it holds up, BUT I don't feel I really get to play the game without spending a bunch of money. Which, this being a game in the early stages of beta, I wont.

You may want to check out a video linked by Molster: HERE, where Devs are explaining player progression and the thought process behind it.

However... it is even more frustrating when I know I lose and decide to pass early. Then my Opponent goes for the highest possible score... you have won so what's the point in playing Commander's Horn while having point advantage already?

In Witcher 2 and Witcher 3 games, you were able to give a potion to an ordinary human. The option was to let those people die or try to heal them with a Swallow (I think that was a Swallow). So even though human were not meant to use elixirs, there was a chance for them to survive.

(For the moment until the CD Project there's nothing to do) are really 2-3 ways of dealing with this:
    1. Allow the opponent buff and gold-plated Roach and then use the D-Bomb
    2. Allow the opponent buff Roach and use the card of the weather (if the opponent does not have Clear Skies)
    3. Allow the opponent buff Roach and use the card of the weather (if your opponent has a Clear Skies) will let this gold plating and then back to the first point
You are mistaken - once the unit is gold-plated you are done. D-Bomb will only remove Strength gained AFTER Promote. Everything the unit gained prior promotion will be converted to base strength.
It therefore looks like the real way to deal with the problem is shot down the unit before it gets promoted.

In fact, as now I guess it was enough to change the skill (Roach and Olgierd) on the what has Ciri and the problem would be solved

I think the problem lies elsewhere. Both Roach and Olgierd are Neutral cards with cool mechanics and great potential. The thing with NR synergy is that you prevent your oponent from being able to act. Frankly speaking I don't see many ways of dealing with buff/promote strategy while there are many ways to get it going. This is how I see it, but I'm far away from jumping to any conclusion, so feel free to prove me wrong.
The issue is related to how reliable buffing is and how hard it is to counter:

Two combos listed above clearly shows, that you need an extra effort to deal with the problem:

    • Dimeritium Bomb will work but can affect your units as well. Similar as weather cards. Note, that even though you will get rid of buffs already applied... you still have to consider the fact that problematic unit is still on board. It can (and probably will) be buffed next round, so you're back where you started.
    • Scorch / Geralt: Igni the ultimate solution right? Not really... as you can only have one of those while there are many units you have to counter. Keep also in mind, that you will not see people buffing units equally those days. One will always be held in back to provide a considerable threat and a target for Horn.
    • Kambi, Borkh Three Jackdaws can be easily dodged, as you give your oponent 3 rounds which will be enough to play Promote.
    • Philippa Eilhart? Please...
Now here comes the best part. You may play well and have a perfect hand of all the counters listed above... even Kambi AND Philippa, because you are that awesome lol. You will have no other cards to play with and your oponent will play that Poor Infantry cause he can have 3 in deck. None in hand? Well.. let's use Field Medic or play Redanian Knight so he will stay on board for 2 rounds at least. Any gold card will spawn Roach and you have used your Scorch already.
I'm not salty - I'm trying to understand the mechanizm here and the ways of countering it.

If you think that is a big combo you should see the poor infantry combos with promote and the things that keeps them around next turn.  the same can be done with that stupid bread card in your very hand. You just choice not do deal with his combo and now you are crying its in the game

Don't take me wrong here - I'm not crying about anything. I try to know the counters you were talking about... counters other than "kill it before it becomes un-killable" as this one is pretty obvious.

If this deck turned into that big a problem anti gold decks would be real and would kill the deck. You are mad a combo deck that is all or nothing is in the game that is ridiculous. I hope the developers don't listen to cry babies and remove this combo.

I was being careful not to place down anything below 6 str, and just stalled the game as long as I could, and then this happened. Most effective epidemic I've seen yet. The guy passed but only ragequit like a few turns after.

     That is massive epidemic removal.

Not sure whether it was the case before, but the way Promote works now, is that it sets base strength to current. It means, that  D-bomb will have little to no effect when used against NR.

As for the D-bomb in general... I believe that purpose of this card is to punish single-player mode type of decks. I know that throwing a bomb is easy, but it is also easy to play "unit -> buf -> buf -> more bufs -> adrenaline -> pass".

    Quote from rebaf >>

Good call The Last Wish, unfortunately i don't have one. I renamed the deck, thanks for the advice you're right, i added "drawn and discard deck" in the deck title so it can be more "searchable".

I like adding a Fog, i was thinking today when i lose to a Northern Realm deck heavily focused on the range row. I'm a huge fan of Commander's Horn but maybe for the deck concept it wouldn't hurt so much if i take out. My only thoughts it's about monster fog deck, i hate when i summon the little foglet with a mine fog.

However i tested with the replacements i said before, not bad. Every game you draw all your deck, very nice since it's not so common you can play every combos in a gwent match. On the contrary, for the general strategy, you usually play Birna Bran and Donar in the second round, when you have to win, so some times you strenghten too much your opponent. But yes, as you said, with a Fog at least Donar advantage for the opponent it's well countered. It remembered me the way you use Yaevinn in Scoiatel weather deck.

I used to play Commander's Horn in my Skellige deck, but decided to remove it. I prefer to rely on base strength increase - it is easier to counter your oponent with D-Bomb/Scorch this way. In your deck however there are no Clan Tordarroch Shieldsmith so you may find it difficult to rely on Clan Tuirseach Skirmishers only. Play around it and see what works for you. Please keep in mind that discarding Tuirseach first round is not a bad idea (assuming you can bring them back right away).
If you play against Monster deck you can discard Fog or use it to trigger passive with foglets.

Madman Lugos could be included for a round three finisher. I know he's expensive, but he's also built for this type of deck. You have only two cards (plus the leader) that allows you to discard 5 cards total. Not sure whether that's enough.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to play around discard mechanics in Skellige decks. Tried a couple of them and I still think that Tuirseach Reanimator beats them all... Hope to prove myself wrong. ;)

Hmmm... point taken. It is way easier to cast weather cards than counter them. The question is how much of a problem it is and should the weather effects be limited?

On the top of my head:

    • weather timer (effect lasts for certain turns)?
    • similar weather effect counters one another (Biting Frost followed by Merigold's Hailstorm will result in Frost effect being cancelled)?
    • Event cards to grant units weather immunity (Silver/Gold card that allows you to chose one of your unit or row to be granted immunity. You could also chose a card name, so all instances of that unit will now be immune to weather)

However - every point listed above hits weather mechanics really hard. Should that be the case?

Tell this a fraction Scoia'tael that can cope with the change of weather only one type of units and units of gold (because Skellige always have the option of inserting a deck of cards resistant to weather changes and the kingdoms of the north are gold-plated units to mitigate weather monster needless to say because of a plurality of units are simply resistant to it).
I've played against Weather Scoia'tael deck. Ability to play their units anywhere seems to be a natural counter. I'm not saying it is something huge and can easily shut down WC decks - just trying to find a bright side. ;)
    Quote from Bazaltimus >>

Ps: Look at it this way, we have a limit of three clear skies and just one Dimeritium Bomb when Monsters "might" take to deck Ragnarok, Skellige Storm, White Frost, Merigold Hailstorm, Aeromancy, (Biting Front, Torrential Rain, Impenetrable Fog) x3 and for that they still have the individual and the hero that cause the weather gives us a total of 14 weather effects with special cards and four of the units and hero for every opponent by all 3 rounds has to deal with the effects of weather and if there are no units that are to resist or can compensate effects of weather are just a losing position only thing I can think of is to use yourself then some special cards that reduce the power of units or toss a spy who also reduces power units to
Having that many Weather cards will leave you with nothing else but those cards in your hand. Well... maybe I wouldn't be THAT bad, but I hope you see my point here. You simply can't allow yourself to build your 25 cards deck on weather cards only as you will have nothing to win with.

The right choice was to also limit the possibility of playing weather effects to three (along with Dagon to four, and any monsters that create the effect of weather on the selected line) to avoid a situation where in each round are played weather effects because then it turns out that playing even three clean sky does not have any influence on table

Hard not to agree that the weather effects are now bent out ,the same case was before the patch with gold plating units because insufficiently that they became immortal is even after they received two power

You don't have to play Clear Skies as soon as any weather effect hits the table. Play it when you need it and make sure you have that Dimeritium Bomb handy. Playing with one copy of Skies and Bomb - don't need more to deal with weather.

I agree the scoiatell need some more love, but I think that being able to cancel out a faction ability with a special card is just a little much, I stand corrected as I forgot dimeritium bomb was a silver card not bronze so it does go some way to alleviating that issue but it is still a little disheartening as dimeritium bomb has utility outside of that where as there aren't any other faction abilities that can really be countered in any way, it is possible to play around the monsters ability sure but not with any one unique card.

In regards to the monsters I never had a problem with them before (playing northern realms) but from what I have seen of the changes monsters don't really suffer many negative changes that seem too impactful (the redfin change is massive however) so we might just see monsters dominate that little bit more, despite how the changes negatively affect my decks personally I am really pleased cdpr are really taking this game seriously and I would like there to be more diversity in the deck pool.

It looks like Dimeritium Bomb would require some more attention. It is however a good moment to test a different approach (Beta).
Changes to Monsters are huge. The fact that you will no longer be able to leave a Gold unit on the table changes 1st round strategy (NOPE for standard GeraltEredin opening). What's even more important - your Eredin can now be easily taken down.
Just to make one thing clear here - I'm playing Skelige deck and chaining Priestess of Freya was fun but broken. It had to be fixed.

posted a message on Philippa Eilhart Broken
    Quote from Ttugamer >>
Right, I've already mentioned similar strong last round cards like weathers and scorches. The difference isn't what the cards do, its that Philippa has virtually no counters. I play Skellige as well and used to have a tough time with weather decks but have since put two clear skies in my deck. I also am able to recognize quite early in the game that I'm playing a weather deck which leaves me time to prepare for the last round by buffing my immune to weather cards instead of my skirmishers, and saving my gold cards. Furthermore it's quite predictable what rows the weather will be coming on because they will be playing weather immune cards and things like ice giant.

The problem with Philippa, while she has an almost identical effect to weather, she has only one counter, and no way of knowing she is coming. There are no "tells" that your opponent will be playing this card like there are with weather, your opponent doesn't have to strategically prepare their cards to make sure they arent doing more damage to themselves than they are to you like they would with weather. Her unpredictably and versatility to take out any row, gold cards included is what makes her over the top.

I'm able to spread my strength across two rows quite easily as Skellige as well, I'd say 3 is a stretch though. But even if I have two virtually equal strength rows, that means Philippa comes out and with one card cuts my total strength in half. No building an entire deck around this move like weather has to do, no careful planning required like there is with some scorch cards, simply save Philippa til the end and you win without warning at all.
The only strat I could think of is being lucky enough to play Clan Tuirseach Axeman and Young Berserker combo. Bringing a "Bear" back from your graveyard as soon as you see "Philippa" hitting the table could also help.
I see your point though - playing against NR will require you to expect her to be the last card in hand in every "Golden Trebuchet" deck which makes me feel sad... like really sad.
As for the three rows Skellige deck - it is possible. I'm not saying you will always pull this one out. I mainly invest in Melee and Siege as that's the way my deck works. However there are occasional cards like Clan Brokvar Hunter and Clan Tuirseach Axeman that I usually use to interrupt/force card plays. A single Clan Heymaey Skald and or any buffing card can boost your Ranged lane significantly.

Dead wrong. Philippa has the versatility no other cards have - the ability to disable ANY ROW, much stronger than any weather cards and she also affects gold units. Furthermore, no faction other than Scoia'tael can spread that much power in multiple rows, and their cards alone ain't carry much strength since they mostly benefits from Resilient and control power.
Furthermore, his point of the power overlap between Philippa's and Geralt's is also valid.
As I said - she is strong and annoying no doubt about that. You could say the same about Aeromancy, Ragh Nar Rog and any weather card affecting more than one Lane. I've lost quite a few matches because of last-round "NOPE" card and won as much of them playing it against my oponent. It happens!
The fact that Philippa affects gold cards could be a subject for change though. This will however make her a gold weather-like card that adds 6 str to the lane you cast her on. This however makes me think about playing a disgusting combo of "Ragh Nar Roog", "Geralt: Igni", "Philippa Eilhart" and "Borkh Three Jackdaws" in one deck...
Last but not least - I'm playing Skellige deck and doing quite good on spreading power equally through two to three lanes.

Never really thought about that, but it looks like a unit buffed after affected with a weather condition, will lose all of the buffs as they are not increasing base strength.

Is she strong - hell yes, is she OP... not so sure.

As you mentioned already, playing last-round Biting Frost would have similar result as playing Philippa (assuming you're investing all your resources in Melee range). She simply punishes decks that do not "spread the wealth" to multiple lanes. Any powerful card saved and played at the end can make a difference (Commander's Horn, Scorch). That's why you want to lure them early.

As for the straight counters not mentioned already - using multiple lanes in the same time would be a counter as well, but you should do it anyway in order to avoid nasty Lacerates/scorch hits.
