Hey guys, TrackStarThomas here. Over the last few months, I've developed into a decent gwent player, although I would not say I'm that good. Like a lot of members, I netdeck because the pros really know their stuff. With that said, I do try to modify decks if I feel they are not holding up. I started season 2 late and only made it to 3700, but this season I feel it is becoming increasing difficult to rank up because of Scoia'tael's STR Buff deck. I think with swim's newest cerys wolfsbane deck, I managed to actually beat a legitimate ST Buff deck one time. I've also run into a little bit of trouble with Radovid Africa and the blasted cancer consume decks, but for the most part, ST just fucks me up again and again.
Would like to hear from others! Also, if you have any advice or good decks you run you'd like to recommend using, I welcome the input. Thanks and happy gwenting.
When talking about the ST buff deck i'll assume that you are talking about the Dol Blathanna Swordmaster deck that has seen quite a rise in popularity recently. While that deck is certainly strong there are quite some ways to counter it/a bunch of archetypes doing rather well against it.
The basis of the deck is rather simple yet effective but it relies on a rather specific game plan, mainly winning round 1 with strong ST tempo plays while buffing the Swordmasters preparing for some huge point plays in round 3. The deck however struggles against control archetypes. The continous buffing with Vrihedd Dragoon is easily interrupted by removal and the deck generally struggles against anything that makes it hard for the Dol Blathanna Swordmaster to provide their full value.
One deck that does very decent is Monsters, not only can they usually win a long round 1 against ST but due to their average unit strength being rather low the Dol Blathanna Swordmaster rarely every manage to get full value when played. In addition to that the deck is rather easy to play and thus beginner friendly.
If you are looking for something requiring more finesse than a Moster deck i'd suggest trying Spell ST. It's what i am personally laddering with right now and it performs exceptionally well against these buff decks.
