Well, I played Gwent from closed beta for 700hs, at that time I was playing HS and looking for a new card game because I was bored by HS dozens expansions (pay to win) and childish community. I loved Gwent instanly and it doesn't happen to me often. I loved his different gameplay, three rows system, weather, speed and collect cards wasn't so impossibile. It had some problems, but I trust in the community feedback and most were solved, we were going in the right direction. It was incredible that after months some players invented new decks every week (some good, some weak).
Then, when we were waiting new expansion and new mechanics, Ragh Nar Roog (aka Homecoming) knocked down this beautiful game.
I forced myself to play it more than a week, I forced myself to like it...but I couldn't. I like the reward system however but Homecoming is sooooo daaaaamn sloooow, so damn intricate mechanics (not strategic), buff +2, damage -2, it's boring, all.
I'm sad and ain't going to play Gwent anymore. It's another game, completely different. I was doubtful and hopeful but I'd not expected a disaster like this.
same 4 me , i loved the old gwent and this homecoming is complete trash for me. Why?
Orders are basically deploy abilities with a one turn delay
you draw 10 + 6 cards during the game and most of the leaders have less than 3 mulligans in total. even 2 or 1. who designed it in that way????
hand limit makes game dumb because u can play slow tempo, do nothing r1 because u are not scared of losing card advantage. BECAUSE U CANT
provision system seemed fine to me at a first glance but when i tried to make a deck with witchers, provisions dictated me the way i could create my deck. because of that fucking limit
reveal is like jousting in HS, which in that game was one of the biggest failures blizzard achieved during years of development of hearthstone. Why the fuck would you put that nonsense mechanic in gwent when you said with homecoming you wanted less rng? and it doesnt stop here, oh no my dear this is only the beginning
ARTIFACTS - either you can answer them or get destroyed by them. Putting cards like dimeritium bomb which are fine when you are against someone with artifacts and 0 point card when being against decks like bran or morvran. wow so much fun haha xD and u cant even mulligan them all away when u dont need them because u have FUCKING 2 MULLIGANS A GAME XDDDDDD
this game is not fun, extremely slow paced because of the hand limit and no punishment because of that, requires little to no thinking, etc.
Same goes for thronebreaker and its highest difficulty where i win 350-0 every game with my deck that u can build. WOW IT`S SO HARD
they basically worked on these 2 games for more than one year and came with the worst shit no one could`ve expected to be. gwent is dead
My biggest problem with new gwent are those artifacts. If there would be limit on those, they might work, but as we know from old gwent people are smart and run engines which are somewhat resilient or they don't run them at all. So people either include a lot of artifacts or non. Therefore you either win against artifact based decks and lose against all others or you win against those others and lose against artifacts. It's worse then GS, which had a similar problem.
The artifact problem can be solved easyly by making flexibility less expensive or by making artifacts more expensive.
I would argue that new gwent requires a lot more strategy and therefore skill. There is a lot more thinking going into new gwent and way more nuances. You can actually develop and interupt strategies in many ways with way more variation from game to game. But it feels slow. I think this can be solved with better vfx.
